FAQs

Surgery is considered for repeated infections or sleep-related breathing issues. A common guide is the “7-5-3” pattern of documented infections (7 in one year, 5/year for two years, or 3/year for three years), or persistent snoring or obstruction despite treatment.

Discomfort is expected for about a week and can peak around days 3–5; pain medicines and good hydration help. Most people are back to school or desk work in 7–14 days.

It’s usually a day-care procedure or one overnight stay. You’ll go home the same day once eating, drinking, and pain control are satisfactory.

Cool, soft foods and plenty of fluids are best for the first few days. Avoid hot, spicy, sharp, or acidic foods and strenuous activity until your doctor clears you.

A temporary change in voice is common while the throat heals. Removing tonsils does not weaken overall immunity; your body has many other immune tissues.

Mild spotting is common. Call immediately for persistent bright-red bleeding, repeated spitting of blood, high fever, severe dehydration (very little urine), or worsening pain not eased by medicines.

True regrowth is rare; sometimes a small remnant enlarges later, especially in young children. If symptoms return, your ENT will reassess and advise next steps.
